This basically transpires if the Sage Data Service has restricted access to your data files, or if your data has been placed on a path in any of the following sites:

  • C:\
  • C:\Windows
  • C:\Program Files
  • C:\Program Files (x86)
  • C:\Dev

Troubleshoot the Sage 50 queue.dta is in use error

Option 1:  Make sure your data is not placed in a blocked folder

  1. Click twice on the Explorer >look throughC:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\20xx, where 20xx is your software version, for instance, 2017 or 2018.
  2. Click twice on the company file >after that click on the Notepad.
  3. Confirm whether your company data paths start with any of the given options:
    1. C:\
    2. C:\Windows
    3. C:\Program Files
    4. C:\Program Files (x86)
  4. In case, you find out that any of your data is placed within the above mentioned folders then you have to immediately transfer the same to a folder that is outside these locations. For instance, C:/ProgramData
  5. Even after transferring your data you still receiving the notification ‘Waiting to open queue.dta’, then you need to reboot the data services. For the same, you have to perform the given steps:
    1. Press the Windows Key and R key together on your keyboard to open the Run command.
    2. When the run command window opens, you need to type Services.msc and after that click OK.
    3. Do right click on Sage 50 Accounts Service and choose to reboot.

Option 2: Check the authorizations on your Machine.xxx folder

For Windows 8 and 10 users:

  1. Press Windows key + E together >find C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\20xx, where 20xx is your software version, for instance, 2017 or 2018.
  2. Click twice on the company file >after that click on the Notepad.
  3. Write each directory path > File >Close.
  4. Find the first directory path >do right click on the folder. For instance, if the directory path is C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\2017\COMPANY.002, find and do right click on COMPANY.002.
  5. Go to Properties >then Security tab >click on Advanced >Deactivate inheritances >Eliminate all inherited authorizations for this object.
  6. Press Add >Choose a principal >then Object Types.
  7. Mark the Computers checkbox >mark the Service Accounts or Services checkbox >Press Ok.
  8. Provide the object name to choose>enter system >Verify Names >choose SYSTEM >Press OK.
  9. Go to Basic authorizations>mark the Complete control checkbox > OK >Click on Apply tab>Press OK twice.
  10. Redo steps 4 to 8 providingGenuine Users in place of system as you did in step 7.
  11. Redosteps 3 to 9 for every data path you have penned down in step 2.

For Windows 7 and below version users:

  1. Click twice on the Explorer > look through C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\20xx, where 20xx is your software version, for instance, 2017 or 2018.
  2. Click twice on the company file >after that click on the Notepad
  3. Write each directory path > File >Close
  4. Find the first directory path >do right click on the folder. For instance, if the directory path is C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\2017\COMPANY.002, find and do right click on COMPANY.002.
  5. Go to Properties > Security button> after that to Advanced >Modify Permissions >Click on Add >then Object Types.
  6. Mark the Computers checkbox >mark the Service Accounts or Services checkbox >Press Ok.
  7. Provide the object name to choose>enter system >Verify Names >choose SYSTEM >Press OK.
  8. Go to Allow column >mark the Complete control checkbox > OK >Click on Apply tab>click on OK button thrice.
  9. Redosteps 4 to 7 providing Genuine Users in place of the system as you did in step 6.
  10. Redosteps 3 to 8 for every data path you have penned down in step 2.
