Instruction to Set Up Sales Tax in Sage 50

To make full use of taxation policies, you need to setup sales tax codes and sales tax authorities in Sage 50, to open Sales Tax, go to the menu bar and click on “Maintain Sales Taxes…”

  1. Click on the option; setup a new sales tax to set it up in the window.
  2. Now, select the next button.
  3. You will be directed to the next window. Go to the first column; enter the rate of sales tax. Leave the field blank if sales tax formula is your base.
  4. Click on individual agencies’ number from the drop-down menu. From here, you will get the list of total tax that you have collected.
  5. Now, select the next button from the option.
  6. Once you are done with the above step, it will direct you to the next window.
  7. Now, enter the information of each tax authority to setup sales tax that you selected in the last window.
  8. Enter the total tax rate for all the vendors and the account information you use to keep check on the tax collection.
  9. To enter the sales tax on the basis of flat percentage vs formula, use the drop-down menu and then click on by formula option.
  10. Once you are finished with the above-mentioned step, select Next button and proceed to the next step.
  11. Once you enter tax authority, enter the name of sales tax in the previous window.
  12. Now, according to your state policy, click on the shipping tax.
  13. Now, to finish creating tax table, select the Finish button.
  14. Here, you can delete, edit or review sales tax agency or sales tax code. In the menu bar, click on Maintain Sales Tax and then open Setup Sales Tax Window.
  15. To edit associated code or information of tax agency, click on the Sales Tax Agency or Edit Sales Tax option.
  16. Now, select the next button.
  17. Edit either the agency or the code in the following window. Change the information and then click on the Next button.
  18. In the last step, click on the Finish button.
